Useful tips that keep your eyes healthy

The eyes are an important part of our body that works as windows to our soul. You need to make sure that your eyes are in a healthy state with good vision without any pain or other symptoms that can impact your well-being. Therefore you must check your eyes regularly to ensure its proper working. There are some common issues associated with eyes like blurred vision, blind spots, halos, etc.

Mostly, people wait for too long time before getting examined their eyes. If you are facing any issues with your vision then you should instantly be checked by an eye care provider. The eye specialist can only identify the key issue associated with vision problems like diabetes, glaucoma, etc.

Here we are sharing some tips that help to keep your eyes healthy:-

  1. Balanced diet 

A balanced diet with healthy food items is beneficial to reduce the chances of age-related vision problems like cataracts, and macular degeneration. Your diet should contain an adequate amount of nutrients like fatty acids, omega 3, zinc, vitamin C, and E. The food you should include on your plate-

  • Green leafy vegetables such as kale, collards, spinach, etc.
  • Egg, beans, nuts, and other protein sources
  • Oyster and pork
  • Salmon, tuna, and oily fish

The balanced diet not only helps to keep your health but also support in managing your healthy weight. Obesity is a key reason for causing type2 diabetes that can lead to blindness in adults.

Smoking is also responsible for causing oxidative stress to your eyes. It can more likely get you cataracts damage to your optic nerve and other medical issues. You can consult the doctor to get help for quitting your smoking habit.

  • Use sunglasses 

You should always keep your eyes protected from the harmful UV rays by using sunglasses. Too much UV exposure to your eyes increases the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. With sunglasses, you can give a layer of protection to your eyes. Also, use a hat that gives an extra layer of protection from UV radiation by slipping around the side of your sunglasses.

  • Look away from the computer screen

When you look at a computer or phone screen for a long time it can result in eyestrain, dry eyes, blurry vision, headaches, neck, back, and shoulder pain. When you are working on your laptop or computer screen you should follow these tips to protect your eyes:-

  • You should make sure you wear the right glasses or contacts with an updated prescription 
  • If you are facing an eye strain problem then consult with your doctor about computer glasses
  • Keep the computer screen to your eye level on top of the monitor. 
  • You should avoid glare from lights and windows. It is good to use an anti-glare screen
  • Use a supportive and comfortable supportive chair. Keep your feet flat on the floor
  • Keep your eyes dry and blink them
  • Give rest to your eyes for 20 minutes. Take a break of 10 minutes every 1 hour.
  • Visit eye doctor 

It is good to do regular checkups of your eye with a specialist. Regular eye exams enable you to detect diseases like glaucoma which has no symptoms. According to your eye health needs, you should consult one of the two types of doctors:-

  • Ophthalmologists – They have specialized in eye care and provide general eye care for treating eye diseases.
  • Optometrists- They have four years of specialized training after college. They offer general eye care and diagnose most eye diseases. They will not do eye surgery.
