Poor nutrition can result in a myriad of adverse health impacts, including driving or exacerbating your sinus symptoms. Certain foods can trigger or alleviate inflammation, and knowing the foods can help ease the discomfort. Here are some of the foods that can affect your sinusitis .

What is a sinus infection?

When a patient has a sinus infection (sinusitis), there is swelling or inflammation inside the nose and head, causing a stuffy nose, difficulty breathing, and pain on the forehead and around the eyes. Sinusitis happens because there is a blockage on the drainage that keeps the nose clean. When a jam occurs, fluids do not flow properly, causing bacteria to grow and leading to an infection. Sinusitis can affect both children and adults.

  1. Yogurt

Curd has a cooling nature. Therefore, it should be avoided during cold or sinus. It will make your congestion even more terrible and will cause several difficulties like runny nose, headache, and sore throat.

  1. Don’t eat fruits or rice at night

The rice is cold. Therefore, this comforting food should only be eaten during lunch hours. Having rice for dinner will cause inflammation and will trigger sinus allergies. The same goes for fruits. Most of them have a cooling effect and can cause a headache or a runny nose. Night fruits are also not advisable, especially if prone to sinus.

  1. Wine and alcohol

Alcohol can make sinusitis symptoms such as nasal congestion worse. Alcohol causes inflammation as well as dehydration. Moreover, it also contains compounds that cause swelling in the nasal tissues. Hence, limit consuming alcoholic products if you are prone to sinusitis.

  1. Banana

As much as eating a banana for a healthy body is recommended, it is also advised to stay away from bananas during a cold or flu. If you have sinus issues, then don’t eat bananas after sunset. It has a cooling nature and causes congestion and sore throat. Always add a pinch of salt after eating fruits. Salt will prevent congestion and help in drawing down excess mucus.

  1. Fatty foods

Foods with a high saturated fat content, such as pizza, cheese, meat products, pasta dishes, full-fat dairy products, and grain-based desserts, can trigger adipose, fat tissue, and inflammation.

  1. Cold drinks or foods

Cold drinks or a food directly from the refrigerator is a strict no-no during sinus. You should avoid foods with added sugar. It hampers the immune system and doesn’t do any good to the body. Chilled water will cause inflammation and eventually will increase your allergic reaction.

We hope this information was helpful; avoid this food to prevent further worsening sinus symptoms.
